Today, work doesn’t mean that you must stay at one place. There are even organizations like TravelWorks offering programs, which e.g. include jobs on farms or summer camps – something most liked by young adults who want to be one year abroad. While these programs can be a good option, both the possible countries and jobs are quite limited and may not allow for learning more about one’s skills. Living as a digital nomad working as a freelancer however might do that.

Being a digital nomad requires certain skills. You need to be flexible and able to adapt to new situations, be able to organize your work and get everything you need and be able to connect with people to find job opportunities. You also need to be quite independent and self-motivated for work.
There are benefits to working and travelling, like being able to learn about new cultures, acquiring new skills and finding out what you are good at. You can also connect with many new people which can also help with future work opportunities. There are also some challenges, like having to organize health insurance and maintaining good relationships with friends and family. It can also be harder to separate work and leisure time.
Organized work and travel programs are more of a travel experience than a good way to earn money, but working and travelling on your own terms might be if it’s right for you. I personally wouldn’t want to take part in an organized program, but living as a digital nomad for one or two years might be something I’d try out.
